Deep in Midwinter
Fleeing to moonrise ~ following deer tracks
Along hillsides
Rich long shadows ~ Tall smokeless flames
Little crowned home ~ Tipi pole spine
Round belly bared
Modest lady moon ~ Swift trickster clouds
Vast jeweled snow-land
Sweet round meadow ~ resplendent golden Venus
Turquoise colored moon
Entwined fingers ~ stalks dividing ~ divining silence
Long coated beggars ~ wine dippers through forest
Moon- filled pool.
~Diana Newman (an old tipi poem)
